Guilsfield miss out on top two

Guilsfield & Llandrinio saved their worst until last after a batting collapse saw them miss out on the top two in Division Six of the Shropshire Cricket League.

Needing a win to guarantee promotion, the bowlers did their bit with Dave Court (6-31) and the division’s leading wicket taker, Duncan Todd (3-26), dismissing Shrewsbury III for just 118.

But only Andy Clements (16) reached double figures as the villagers were bowled out for just 61.

They will now have to wait to see whether three teams will go up, but another plus for the club was skipper Dave Lewis topping the division’s batting charts for the season.

A final day defeat left Welshpool rooted to Division Two’s basement. Chasing the champions, Wellington II’s, 218-3, Welshpool could only muster 82 meaning that they will face cricket in Division Three next term.

Montgomery finished fifth in Division Two after chasing down Wroxeter’s 184-8. Ieuan Griffiths (77) and Thomas Corfield (51no) batted well for the victory.

Newtown also finished with a flourish, setting 237-which was well out of reach for Beacon in Division One. Tom Anderson top scored with an unbeaten 74.
