Pool prepare for Montgomeryshire derby

23/11/2019 @ 08:51

Welshpool host Mid Wales rivals, Llanidloes, at Maesydre today in a Division Two North clash with crucial points up for grabs, writes Gary Williams of Oval Zone Rugby.

Despite Pool’s defeat last weekend against title favourites, Mold, they will be hoping to take the points against a Llani team who find themselves propping up the division.

Welshpool coach, Dai Roberts, stated that he ‘was happy with certain aspects of last weekend’s game’ at Mold but knows there is still a lot more to come from his young side and with the next two fixtures against teams near the foot of the table, he will be looking for top quality performances.

Llanidloes, a team you can never write off, are having a torrid time at the moment, losing in the last minute at home last week against Abergele, and they need to start picking up points quickly or it’s going to be a long season for the boys from Cae Hafren.

What a difference a week has made for Newtown who bounced back from their derby day defeat to Welshpool to stun a Shotton side last Saturday with a much-improved display. However, they will have to put in a similar performance as they travel to high-flying Teirw Nant in Llanrwst. However, Newtown will have noted that Teirw Nant suffered a shock home defeat last weekend against Colwyn Bay, so their new found enthusiasm and knowing that Teirw are erratic at the moment, may stand them in good stead.

COBRA, bottom of Division One North, make the long trip to Caernarfon who sit just one place above COBRA in the table.

This is yet another game that COBRA need to come home with points of some sort. The nerves will be jangling for the Meifod boys who know that they are a match up front for most teams in this division and just need to use their possession in a more clinical fashion to keep the scoreboard ticking over.
