In-form Welshpool face a big test on Saturday as they travel to unbeaten Wrexham in a game which kicks off the second half of the Division Two North season, writes Gary Williams from Oval Zone Rugby.
Pool have taken great strides since the first game of the season when Wrexham visited Maesydre and secured a convincing 19-38 win.
Coach, Dai Roberts, content with the way his boys are currently playing, stated: “We are relishing the challenge a game against title favourites Wrexham will give us at the weekend. It’ll be a real test of how we are progressing.”
Newtown, struggling to get any consistency in their game at the moment, face a daunting trip to unbeaten, top of the table Mold.
In the opening game of the season, Mold travelled to The Rec and won with an emphatic 3-52 scoreline. Newtown will have to be at their very best to keep a rampant Mold side from picking up the points and extending their unbeaten run.
Following their opening day 81-0 mauling at Teirw Nant, Llanidloes will be looking for a marked improvement when they host the Llanrwst team at Cae Hafren.
Llani’s season has not been a good one so far but this is the sort of fixture that can kick start their revival if they can reclaim the fight and spirit that we know they are capable of.
In Division One North, COBRA, currently holding bottom spot in the table, face another massive contest when Ruthin, smarting from last weekend’s loss at Bala, will be looking to get back to winning ways and pressurise Bethesda and Llandudno in the race for the title.
It is difficult to see the Meifod boys getting a result here but, if their forwards, who can match any in the division in the set pieces, can secure a bit of ball, a shock may be on the cards.
Preceding the COBRA first team game, their second team will be kicking off at 1pm against a Dolgellau 2nd XV.
