A decade of glory

Welshpool’s Adele Nicoll has completed an incredible decade in elite sport by being named on the list of athletes who will receive support and funding in 2020.

The throwing sensation has joined Forden’s marathon man, Andrew Davies, and 400m hurdler Lauren Williams, from Trefeglwys, on the list of 41 track and field stars revealed by Welsh Athletics.

“I am extremely grateful to be a part of the Commonwealth Games programme for 2020,” Adele told us last night. “The support that I receive from Welsh Athletics is invaluable. It's very difficult being a full-time Masters student, working full time and trying to make it as a professional athlete. So I really do appreciate any help that I am given.”

It promises to be a big year for Adele who is targeting a breakthrough into the British senior team, among other big ambitions.

“My plans for 2020 are to win the Welsh Championships, win the British Universities Championships, medal at the British Championships and hopefully make my first senior GB team for the European Championships.”

Adele, who is based in Cardiff, has also praised local companies such as Rikki Lloyd's (Butchers) and Dawson Shanahan who she says have played a “massive role in supporting me and I couldn't be more grateful”.
