Huge cash boost for local sport

Welshpool Junior Football Club and Welshpool Ladies Football Club are among the recipients of more than £28,000 that has been handed out to 22 sports organisations across the county, Powys County Council has announced.

Welshpool Junior Football Club will receive £1,165 towards coach education and equipment and Welshpool Ladies Football Club will receive £1,387 towards coach education, equipment and astro pitch hire.

Guilsfield Short Mat Bowls have successfully applied for £1,500 towards coach education, equipment and venue hire.

Now sports and physical groups in Powys are being urged by the council’s Sports Development Team to take advantage of a grant worth up to £1,500 to help contribute to creating thriving clubs which will continue to create opportunities through enterprise and innovation. 

The grants are designed to make a difference to sport and physical activity locally and are available through the Sportlot Community Chest, the Sports Council for Wales National Lottery funded grant aid scheme.

With just over £20,000 available for the last meeting of this financial year, the council are urging organisations to submit their application, so they don’t miss out on the grant.

The latest successful organisations that grant funding included:

·      Brecon Corries Juniors: £1,387 towards coach education and kit

·      Brecon RFC Petanque Club: £1,500 towards facility hire, coach education and equipment

·      Bulls Cycling Club: £1,500 towards coach education and equipment

·      Builth Wells Junior Rugby Football Club: £1,500 towards coach education, equipment and facility hire

·      Caersws Junior Football Club: £250.00 towards coach education and equipment

·      Credu: £1,500 towards equipment

·      Disability Powys: £1,270 towards coach education, equipment and facility hire

·      Guilsfield Short Mat Bowls: £1,500 towards: coach education, equipment and venue hire

·      Gwent Basketball Development: £1,500 towards coach education, facility hire and equipment

·      Llanidloes Junior Football Club: £1,440 towards coach education

·      Llanidloes Lawn Tennis Club: £1,490 towards coach education, facility hire and equipment

·      Llanidloes Rugby Football Club: £1,490 towards coach education and equipment

·      Mid Wales Meteors: £1,500 towards coach education and equipment

·      N-Able: £1,500 towards equipment

·      Northcote Conservative Junior Football Club: £1,450 towards coach education, equipment and facility hire

·      Play Radnor: £1,000 towards facility hire, coach education and equipment

·      Presteigne Ladies Hockey Club: £270 towards coach education and equipment

·      Rhayader & Elan Valley Angling: £1,330 towards coach education and equipment

·      South Powys Badminton Association: £770.00 towards facility hire, instructors fees and equipment

·      South Powys Community Football Hub: £1,500 towards equipment and facility hire

·      Welshpool Junior Football Club: £1,165 towards coach education and equipment

·      Welshpool Ladies Football Club: £1,387 towards coach education, equipment and astro pitch hire 

The next deadline for applications is January 17.
