Welshpool Rugby Club have launched an epic NHS fundraiser that will enable the town to say a big thank-you to the life savers fighting Covid-19 on the frontline.

Current and past players of all ages, coaches, parents, sponsors and supporters are all being encouraged to support the club’s bid to clock up enough miles that would stretch from the town to Stade de France, in Paris, (venue for 2023 World Cup final) and back.

It’s a total of 950 miles and the target is to complete the equivalent miles in just seven days.

“Next Sunday we will be starting a challenge to raise money for Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH) Charity and do our bit to support the heroes that are working day in and day out, risking themselves to keep us safe,” said a club spokesperson.

“Please either join in or, if you can't make it, please sponsor and all monies received will go directly to the NHS.”

A target of £1,000 has been set but almost £300 had already been raised by this afternoon.

The rules are simple with participants using their permitted daily exercise to run or walk and clock up the miles. The strict Government guidelines should be followed.

SaTH is a registered charity that makes a real difference to the patients of The Royal Shrewsbury and Princess Royal Hospitals. SaTh Charity pays for equipment, patient comforts, staff education and research, which go above and beyond the funded services provided by the NHS.
