Rugby club raising ‘rucks’ of cash

23/04/2020 @ 11:27

It was supposed to take a week, but Welshpool Rugby Club’s challenge to ‘run’ to Paris and back has been completed in half the time!

The club challenged players, past and present, as well as supporters, family members and the wider community to support their ‘Strava’ challenge to clock up the 950 miles that it would take to reach the host city for the next Rugby World Cup and back to town.

But despite the challenge being “smashed”, participants are being encouraged to keep it going for the rest of the week to raise even more money for the Shrewsbury and Telford NHS Trust Charity.

As of this morning, the challenge has doubled the £1,000 target originally set with runners now clocking up over 1,200 miles.

“Challenge smashed. We completed our 950 miles with Ben Carpenter, parent of one of our U8s, running the 950th mile!” said a club spokesperson.

“We are determined to keep going. We will update everyone with miles travelled, money raised and where we could have got to had we not turned around up until 2:30pm on Saturday when we will all enjoy a beer at home!”
