Rugby club ‘reached’ Bucharest!

27/04/2020 @ 11:56

They were only supposed to ‘run’ as far as Paris and back, but Welshpool Rugby Club’s virtual challenge took them to Eastern Europe and has raised almost £2,500 to date for charity.

The club called out to its players, past and present, parents, coaches, supporters and sponsors to join them in using their daily exercise to collectively run the 950 miles from Welshpool to the Stade de France, the venue for the 2023 World Cup final.

They set a target of completing it in seven days, but they had smashed it in half that time so carried on to see how far they could go.

At the final whistle, the club had covered 1,796 miles using the tracking app Strava, and raised a whopping £2,480 for the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust Charity.

“Our final destination could have been Bucharest, but it’s not. It’s at home where everybody needs to be right now,” said a club statement.

“An enormous THANK-YOU goes out to everyone who has ran, walked, donated, liked and shared. Our eternal thanks go out to the heroes of the NHS up and down the country.”

The fundraising page will stay open until May 1 should you wish to donate here.
