Angling on a return!

17/05/2020 @ 11:40

Anglers are heading back to the lakes and rivers in Wales, but they are being told to follow strict guidelines with some already being confronted by police officers.

Angling is now permitted under the latest Welsh Government guidelines, but anglers are ordered to fish alone or with one person from the household until restrictions are eased.

Other restrictions include no night fishing, no boat fishing and no nets to be used. Competitions are also banned.

But there is also a question mark next to driving to go fishing with Angling Cymru updating its advice on Friday to say that only disabled people can drive.

Several anglers were sent packing in West Wales with Mark Collins, the Chief Constable of Dyfed Powys Police, saying on BBC Radio Wales that you could not drive to go fishing.

“My understanding is that angling comes under the umbrella of exercise so exercising in Wales is permitted as many times a day as you wish to, but it is from your house and back to your house and doesn't include driving,” he said.

“So the first point is you wouldn't be able to drive.”

Golfers returned to local golf courses this week and the feedback from Welshpool Golf Club has been positive with players adhering to the restrictions in place.
