Forden runner Andy Davies has been selected for the Great Britain and Northern Ireland team to compete at the International Association of Ultrarunners (IAU) 50km European Championships in Avila, Spain on October 8.

It continues a remarkable year for the Newtown campus college lecturer (pictured on the right) who is already in training to compete for Wales in the marathon at this summer’s Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

Davies will be joined in the squad by fellow Welshman Dan Nash, with Oswestry runner Ali Lavender among the women selected.

“I’m delighted to be picked for GB alongside fellow Welshman Dan Nash at the European 50km Champs in Spain in October,” Davies responded to his call-up.

Nash was third at the 2019 IAU World 50km Championships, while Davies was fifth at the 2016 edition.

Team Leader, Walter Hill, said: “The two trial events (in April) demonstrated the high standard of athletes in the UK who want to race over the 50km distance.

“We have enjoyed success at the world championships in recent times, so I’m looking forward to seeing how our team of previous GB & NI internationals and debutants fare at the inaugural European edition.”
