Great effort but no 50m final for Dan
It proved a swim too far for Welshpool’s hero Dan Jones at the Commonwealth Games tonight.
After delighting his growing Welshpool fan base by qualifying for the semi-final of the 50m freestyle this morning Dan knew he was up against it after qualifying as the 10th fastest, clocking 22.65 seconds.
With a personal best of 22.58 at the distance the Welsh record holder faced some of the world’s top freestyle swimmers in the Sandwell Aquatics Centre in Birmingham and his time of 22.76 seconds was not enough to reach the final.
Just half-a-second separated the eight swimmers in a rapid semi-final won by rising Australian star Tom Nowakawski.
Dan is not done yet though! His incredible Games schedule continues in the morning with the medley relay - his fifth event.
