Hundreds of football fans from across Britain are heading our way this weekend for their annual Groundhoppers pilgrimage.
Non-league enthusiasts will watch an incredible 10 local games over the Bank Holiday weekend, taking them from the likes of Abermule, Four Crosses and Llanfyllin, through to Llanidloes and Carno before heading to Radnorshire but returning closer to home on Monday.
The visitors will bring much needed revenue to the area’s clubs by boosting their normal attendances considerably, and the Spar Mid Wales League has staggered its kick-off times to enable maximum opportunity for more clubs to benefit!
League Secretary Phil Woosnam is looking forward to a weekend to remember:
“The clubs themselves are all looking forward to bumper crowds with the groundhoppers anticipated to number at least 200,” he said. “They have held regular meetings to make their arrangements and their organiser, Chris Berazi, has attended the last two Spar AGM's and put in a tremendous effort to bring the group to Mid Wales for the Bank Holiday weekend.
“There should certainly be some cracking matches in store to keep them all entertained as well as the refreshments provided at the different venues.”
Some of the clubs have rushed through orders for badges, hats and scarfs and are providing pitch-side refreshments and entertainment.
