Aldridge turns back the clock

Bob Aldridge turned back the clock to lift a major trophy at Welshpool Golf Club yesterday.

The 62 year old Aldridge saw off the challenge of the highly fancied Gareth Williams in the 36 hole final of the Robin Annison Scratch Cup.

Aldridge had a six hole lead at the halfway stop but Williams proved why he is rated as one of the club's best players by storming back in the second round.

Williams had reduced the deficit to just one hole by the time they had reached the seventh green but Aldridge got his game back together to see the pair shaking hands on the 16th green.
