Welshpool A became the first team to beat reigning WPA North champions Caernarfon A in 2 years at the Talbot Inn with a 19-17 verdict.
Having edged the opening two sessions 5-4, Welshpool A struggled in the third session being 4-1 down at one point, but rallied to a 4-5 session loss. Welshpool then held their nerve in the final session as Cougan Jones took the black that mattered with a frame to spare. Welshpool Man of the Match was Barry Emberton 3/4.
Welshpool B rallied from a disastrous 8-1 first session that put them right up against it, but a fine 7-2 score in the final session saw them eventually lose 21-15 (Paul Morris man of the match).
