Shock for Welshpool as Evans quits

06/10/2010 @ 10:18

Graham Evans has sensationally quit as manager of struggling Technogroup Welshpool with the club sitting third from bottom of the Huws Gray Alliance.

Pool have only four points to show from their opening six games and have already bowed out of the financially lucrative Welsh FA Cup.

Rumours spread quickly tonight that Evans had tendered his resignation and club secretary Liam Pritchard confirmed he had left the club earlier today but declined any further comment.

Instead the club will issue a statement about the situation on Thursday morning.

Evans landed the Welshpool hot seat only a few weeks before the season was due to start following the club's relegation from the Welsh Premier League on failing to gain the necessary ground criteria.

He was faced with the situation that not a single player from the previous season's first team squad was staying and was forced to recruit a completely new side. It is not known whether his assistant Benji Evans has also departed.

Welshpool are scheduled for a daunting trip to high flying Caersws on Saturday.
