Barton set for Welshpool hot seat

Mike Barton is sensationally on the verge of being unveiled as the new manager of Technogroup Welshpool.
The former Newtown goalkeeper resigned two hours ago from his post as manager of Huws Gray Alliance rivals Guilsfield and mywelshpool believes that he will be installed in the Town hot seat in time for tomorrow’s match at Caersws.
The Lilywhites have moved fast to replace Graham Evans, who quit the Town job on Wednesday, but the pace in which Barton has been recruited will send shockwaves across Welsh football.
“We are very disappointed and shocked that he has quit,” said Guilsfield chairman Paul Harding. “Mike has told us that he believes he has taken the club as far as he can and we would like to thank him for the work he has done in establishing the club as a real force in the Cymru Alliance.”
The resignation came at 4pm, just seven hours after permission was granted by Guilsfield for Technogroup Welshpool to speak to their manager. Harding added that while the club was not happy, they respect his decision and wished him well in his future endeavours.
Barton is believed to be meeting with the Welshpool hierarchy tonight with a statement possibly being released later or over the weekend.
Barton was in his second spell as Guilsfield manager following a miserable stint in charge of Caersws. Assistant, Bernie Jones, will take charge of first team affairs tomorrow but the club has said that they will advertise the vacant position with immediate effect with interested parties invited to contact Harding.
