Guilsfield step up manager search

17/10/2010 @ 12:59

Guilsfield will step up their search for a new manager this week after suffering their fourth successive league defeat of the season at lowly Rhayader.

The villagers have been in no rush to replace Mike Barton, who walked last week, but three defeats since his departure have sparked a change of heart.

Chairman Paul Harding said: “We have a shortlist and we hope to be speaking to the man at the top of the list this week.”

Guilsfield had only themselves to blame for allowing Rhayader to secure their first win of the season. Rhys Roberts caught the defence napping from a set piece to score the winner in the last 10 minutes. Earlier, Rhayader had taken the lead from the penalty spot before Ross Frame levelled for the visitors, also from the spot.

Mike Barton’s reign as Technogroup Welshpool supremo ended in misery despite leading 1-0 at the break. Andrew Swarbrick led the second half fight back with a hat-trick as the Wrexham side returned home 4-1 victors.

Llanrhaeadr took advantage of Berriew’s day off to record yet another 1-0 victory to march on at the top of the Spar Mid Wales Division One.
But there was little reward elsewhere for our local clubs as Dyffryn Banw went down 2-0 at home to Tywyn Bryncrug and Waterloo Rovers returned empty handed from Carno, losing 3-0.

In Division Two, leaders Kerry slipped up 2-0 at home to Aberaeron allowing the chasing pack to make ground. Four Crosses move up to joint third after Elliot Townsend, an own goal and a cheeky Daz Jones back heel saw them overcome Llanfyllin 3-1. Llanfair and Montgomery played out a 0-0 draw and Meifod saw an improved performance at Rhosgoch but they eventually went down 2-1.

The Emrys Morgan Cup decimated the JT Hughes Montgomeryshire Amateur League programme but it did see a cracking match at the top of Honda Division One. Llangedwyn were hoping to pull away but went down 3-2 at home to Llanidloes Reserves. Dave Davies and Darren Edwards were on the mark for Llangedwyn. Doubles for Tom Lapworth and James Coleman secured a 4-0 win for Caersws Reserves and Berriew Reserves got their first points of the season by beating Churchstoke 2-1 thanks to goals from Josh Gethin. Ricky Davies scored the Churchstoke reply. In Mitsubishi Division Two, Kerry Reserves beat Waterloo Colts 3-0 with goals from Luke Vicars (2) and Carl Danson while Llanfechain beat Llanfair Reserves 6-1 with goals from Llion Jones (2), Mike Jones (2), Bobby Phillips and Rob Edwards.

In the Emrys Morgan Cup, Waterloo Rovers Reserves were left frustrated after their opposition failed to show.
