Technogroup Welshpool to soldier on

Technogroup Welshpool will not fold this week. That was the resilient message that has been issued following tonight’s dramatic emergency meeting to decide the club’s future.
The meeting was called following the resignation of manager Mike Barton on Friday, just a month after Graham Evans resigned citing similar reasons about the way the club was run.
Tomorrow’s match at Penrhyncoch was already cancelled and a senior official had gone on record to question whether the club, which is bottom of the Huws Gray Alliance, would be better off folding its first team to regroup in the amateur league.
But the saga has taken another twist tonight with the committee emerging from the lively emergency meeting determined to redouble their efforts and survive the current season.
“It was a very positive meeting which was well attended by supporters who showed that there is a genuine love for the club,” said General Manager Liam Pritchard. “Everyone had their say including David Jones who represented the players and assured the committee that he didn’t believe that players had already left for other clubs.
“The committee has made a commitment to carry on and to overcome the obstacles in the way. Benji Evans, who has broken his back this week to sort out the problems, will continue as caretaker boss until a new manager is appointed. We have received a number of expressions of interest and are open to applications for the post.”
Last month the club was deducted 15 points for playing illegal players in what has been a tumultuous season.
