Technogroup Welshpool have confirmed that Connah’s Quay striker Chris Herbert (right) has been appointed as their new manager with a brief to “put the smiles back on the supporters’ faces”.
Herbert is believed to be keen to step into management having been involved with youth coaching at the Deecide outfit, and the job at Welshpool appears to present him with the challenge he has been looking for.
“We are delighted with the appointment as Chris is widely regarded to be a promising manager in the making, and we're pleased that he has chosen Technogroup Welshpool to take the next step on a hoping very exciting journey,” said General Manager Liam Pritchard.
“He impressed in conversations with committee members as well as during the interview, and everyone the club has spoken to with reference to him have given a glowing recommendation of his ability and character. It is felt he will be able to draw upon his contacts to very quickly strengthen the squad in key areas, making us very competitive for the rest of this season while building a team capable of beating anyone on their day, regardless of what league the club finds itself in next season.”
Pritchard added that the club has not given up the hope of staying up in the Huws Gray Alliance and will not do so until it is mathematically impossible to stay up.
“With games against Ruthin and Rhydymwyn coming up over the next two weeks we feel that six points are a very real possibility, which will give us a platform to build upon for the rest of the season,” he added. “There's still 57 points left to play for this term and we're going to scrap for every last one of them.
“We're thankful to everyone who expressed an interest in the position since it became vacant. The quality of the candidates exceeded our expectations considering the position of the club and we're all buoyed by such a positive appointment.
“The aim of the club between now and the end of the season is to start putting a smile back on the faces of our supporters. League survival is a realistic possibility if we apply ourselves properly and the Central Wales Cup is firmly within our sights.”
