Welshpool boss signs two

03/12/2010 @ 08:13

Technogroup Welshpool new manager Chris Herbert has moved to make two more signings as he bids to save the club from near-certain relegation following the deduction of 15 points.

He has brought in former Connah's Quay captain Gary Pinch a tough tackling centre back who has returned to the country after a coaching stint in the United States and rates the new man as a 'major asset.'

The former Tranmere Rovers youth who was released by Brian Little and played for Accrington Stanley and Unibond League Witton Albion before joining Connah's Quay.

"He will be a major asset to Welshpool as he has a wealth of experience," said the boss. "He is great at motivating the players for games, which is something that has been lacking. He is a tough tackling centre back, who would tackle his own granny to win the ball!

"Pinchy is well aware of our situation in the league and he said he can't wait to get in and show the Welshpool  fans what he has got. He started his career at Tranmere Rovers where he spent five years, then Nev Powell took him to Nomads where he was always a first team regular, and captained the side under Jim Hackett in the 2007/08 season.

"Still only 24, Pinchy still has a big future now he is back from USA and im glad he chose to come to Welshpool ahead of other clubs, it shows we are attracting the players that a few weeks ago would not have taken a second look."

And Herbert has brought in a cover goalkeeper for first choice stopper Dave Jones by signing former Flint man Johnny Wyatt.
