Big week for local cricket

Welshpool Cricket Club’s busiest winter in living memory will gather pace this week following tomorrow (Wednesday) night’s annual general meeting.

An emergency meeting held at the end of the summer addressed the sport’s decline in the town, but just two months down the line, big moves have been made to re-establish cricket as a sport for Welshpool to get behind.

And the club received a timely boost in the meantime with the FBC Manby Bowdler Shropshire Cricket League deciding not to relegate them to Division Two, a decision the club fully intends to capitalise on.

“I think we are feeling very positive about the direction of our club and, in a short time during what promises to be a busy winter, we’ll see actions being implemented that take us forward in a variety of areas, all essential to ensuring success on and off the pitch at Welshpool Cricket Club,” said Dave Jones (right) the club’s Development Planning Manager.

“I am really pleased with the response. Following the AGM, we will be actively pursuing most of our objectives which is fantastic only two months after inception.”

Three subcommittees (Development Planning & Grounds, Finance & Fund Raising and Junior) have been formed with chairpersons to be elected at the AGM. A Playing/Coaching sub-committee will be formed after AGM.

The AGM takes place at the Raven at 7pm.
