Welshpool welcome Newtown for massive Cup tie
The pair will clash in their final North Wales Division 2 Cup group match, and a Welshpool win will secure a place in the final at Colwyn Bay on Sunday, May 12.
Daley Jones, Welshpool Head Coach, said: “We’re getting near the end of a fantastic season and we’re looking forward to the challenge that Newtown will offer on Saturday.
“We have both produced some excellent performances in recent weeks and it’s likely to be a tremendous tussle.
“What happens in the league is out of our hands but the cup is different, we need the win to extend the season to one more game and the boys are certainly up for it.”
A reminder of the league situation... if Teirw Nant beat Shotton Steel it means that neither Welshpool or Colwyn Bay will get that elusive second promotion spot. A win for Shotton and Pool are still relying on The Bay gaining no more than four points in their final game against Rhyl on April 27. The odds are certainly against Pool claiming that promotion spot but it is fingers crossed.
In Division One, COBRA, buoyant after wins home and away against Bala, will have a more difficult task when they visit high-flying Pwllheli. The Meifod men have two more league games to play and a home tie in the North Wales Cup semi-final against Caernarfon.
It would be tremendous for Mid Wales rugby if both Welshpool and COBRA could get to the finals weekend on May 11 and 12.
COBRA Ladies have already booked their final spot against Caernarfon on May 11.
In Division Three North East, Llanidloes face Bala 2nds at Cae Hafren. The visitors, second from bottom in the league table, will probably be strengthened by a couple of first teamers who are without a fixture and this could turn it into a close and entertaining end of season game.
