Welshpool Livestock Sales report on Sale at Buttington Cross, Welshpool on Monday.

OTMS (48)

A good entry of 48 otm cattle this week topping the otm cow section was T Davies & Partners, Red House, with a 800kg Limousin making £1280 (160ppkg). TH, ME & EJ Jones, Plas Coch, sold a Simmental Otm cow weighing 814kg making £1131.46 (139ppkg). Younger cows topped at £1138.25 (157ppkg) for a 725kg Limousin from Red House Farm, Aberhafesp. Heifers under 48 months topped at £1205.06 (178ppkg) for a Hereford heifer weighing 677kg from J Jones, 58 Lon Maesycoed.

Averages of the day were as follows:

OTM Cows (x31) 119.92ppkg / £818.74.

Cows 48-72 months (x5) 139.25ppkg / £956.09.

Heifers Under 48 months (x8) 139.24ppkg / £854.92.

Bulls Under 72 months (x4) 134.56ppkg / £1226.14.

Overall Average 126.39ppkg.

PRIME HOGGETS (4694)

An entry of 4694 prime hogget’s sold to an overall average of 179.47ppkg.

Lights (655) to 194ppkg from TK Robinson, Tynewydd. Others to 185ppkg from RS Jones, Ty Brith. Average of 146.71ppkg.

Standards (1508) to 235ppkg & 229ppkg from B L Hamer, Upper Brithdir. Others to 217ppkg from C D Jones, Bedol. Average of 176.06ppkg.

Mediums (1535) to 233ppkg from G Morgan, Cae Carreg. Others to 223ppkg from V Jerman, Gwernydd. Average of 192.08ppkg

Heavies (751) to 222ppkg from CL & C Watkins, Bank Farm. Others to 221ppkg from E L Evans, Derlwyn. Average of 187.09ppkg

Over Weights (136) to 187ppkg from M P Harding, Lower Cefnypwll. Others to 185ppkg from H G Ellis & Co, Tynywern. Average of 175.20ppkg.

CULL SHEEP (1941)

A slightly reduced entry of cull sheep this week saw a top of £136 for a ewe from D Gethin, Llanyhared. I P Davies & Son, Heniarth Farm, sold a ewe to £110. Rams topped at £100 from D Costa, Tyndrain.

Averages for the day were: Ewes £43.49, rams £54.18.

STORE LAMBS

A good entry of 1000 store lambs this week selling to an improved average of £53.95. Top price of £78.00 went to RL & PA Whitticase, Binwikin, Churchstoke with Texel x tup lambs. Theave lambs topped £75.50 from DA & SJ Jones, Dyffryn, Aberhafesp. Texel x mixed and clean lambs topped £70.00 coming from R T Watkin, Coed y Deri, Tregynnon. V E Lewis & Son, The Garn, Llanbadarn Fynydd presented texel x wether lambs reaching the top price of £65.00.

Averages for the day were:

Mixed/Clean Lambs (635): £54.36

Theave Lambs (149): £58.74

Tup lambs (135) : £50.35

Wether Lambs (76): £49.05

STORE CATTLE
Monday saw a final entry of 118 store cattle sold through ring 2, the first store cattle sale of the year ended with satisfactory averages of 206.80ppkg or £1020 for steers and heifers 199ppkg or £841.91 per head for Heifers.
