PRIME LAMBS (4212)

A larger entry of lambs sold to return an average of 217.91ppkg, with a top price of 262ppkg for pen of lambs weighing 41kg making £107.50 from MRM Matthews & Co, Tanyfron, and £110/head for 43.5kg lambs from A Rees & Son, Tynllwyn.

Again a larger number of spring lambs forward sold to as expected a slightly slower trade throughout. Good competitive bidding was experienced on all well meated, well fleshed lambs. Most demand was for the export weight lambs 39-44kg which would consistently sell between 230-240ppkg. Lighter weight lambs sold to a slower demand than in recent weeks due to the upcoming ethic festival. Hopefully trade for these types will pick up again next week. Heavier weight lambs found more demand as the numbers of hoggets now are very low.

An end of season entry of hoggets sold to a mixed trade throughout with a strong demand for any well fleshed hoggs of any weight. In most demand were the heavier weight hoggs with also a strong demand for well meated two toothed sheep. However still plenty of poorer quality, clearing up hoggs which were very difficult to sell.
