Welshpool Livestock Sales report on their sale at Buttington Cross on Monday.

OTMS (25)

A similar number of OTM cattle on offer this week, seeing a top price of £1048.75 (125ppkg) for a Limousin x OTM weighing in at 839kg from WS Jones, Fronhir. G & A Williams, Nantygeifr made 137ppkg for a Blonde d'Aquitaine  x weighing 752kg making £1030.24. Younger cows (48-72 months) topped at £947.54 (118ppkg) for a Limousin x weighing 803kg from WRL Price & Co, Pencwm. ET Bound & Co, Tynymaes made 120ppkg for a Limousin x weighing 694kg making £832.80. Heifers under 48 months topped at £771.84 (134ppkg) for a heifer weighing kg from RW Roberts, Hillfield.

Averages of the day were as follows:

OTM Cows (22) 99.94ppkg / £686.51

OTM Bull (3) 95.48ppkg / £924.84

Cows 48-72 Months (3) 104.17ppkg / £715.65

Heifers Under 48 months (1) 134ppkg / £771.84

Bull Under 72 month (3) 127.67ppkg / £1001.39

PRIME LAMBS (4103)

An entry of lambs forward sold to return an average of 171.72ppkg, with a top price of 217ppkg for pen of lambs weighing 30kg making £65 from CR Pryce, Pentre Farm, and £96/head for 68kg lambs from WA Newey & Sons, Tynymaen.

A similar number of lambs on offer sold to an improved trade throughout with a large number of buyers present creating competitive bidding on all weights and grades of lambs. Better quality, well shaped lambs again sold to a strong demand with a good number of pens selling at 200p/kg and above. Best trade of the day was for the lighter weight under 38 kilo lambs which found a strong competitive demand for all types with again a good number of these weights being sold as store lambs and going back on farm. Export weight lambs also found a better trade as did the heavier weight lambs which sold up to a high of £96 or a pen of well fleshed 68 kilo lambs from M/s Newey, Tynymaen. Least demand was for any overfat lambs and the poorer Hill bred 40+ kilo Lambs. Please keep drawing lambs to sell especially if they are well fleshed.

Lights (378) to 217ppkg from CR Pryce, Pentre Farm. Others to 194ppkg from TE Rowlands Ai Fab, Tyddyn Du. Average of 170.29ppkg.

Standards (857) to 197ppkg from EB Ellis, Penisarcwm and DWP Griffiths, Park Lodge. Others to 193ppkg from EJ & AJ Roberts, Longlands. Average of 173.46ppkg.

Mediums (1623) to 210ppkg from J Bytheway, Oakdene. Others to 201ppkg from DWP Griffiths, Park Lodge.  Average of 171.18ppkg.

Heavies (1044) to 188ppkg from CL & C Watkins, Bank Farm. Others to 185ppkg from CR Ellis, Ty Uchaf. Average of 163.78ppkg. 

CULL SHEEP (2438)

This week we saw an increased entry of 2366 cull ewes that met a strong trade throughout once again with a very similar average of £48.77 being achieved (down 7 pence on the week) 13 individual cull ewes buyers present once again this week leading to competitive bidding from start to finish! Generally the ewes werent as strong as last week. Top price of the day of £127 went to EL Evans & Co, The Green Farm for a terrific pen of 11 Texel ewes.

66 cull rams met a fast trade once again with an overall average of £80.04. Top price of the day of £260 went to JM & A Jones, Wig closely followed by IE Roberts & Son, Maesdyfnant and JM & SM Rowlands, Dolwen that sold a ram each at £220.

Another impressive entry of just over 1200 considering the time of year, brought with it a slightly stickier trade.

Texel ewe lambs to £91 twice, £90 and £88 twice, Suffolks to £77, £76 and £68, Mules to £90, £86 and £78, Welsh to £72 and £70, Beltex to £84 and £70, Cheviots to £66 and £62.

Texel yearlings to £118 and £96, Speckles to £64, Mules to £110 and £95, Welsh to £102 and Aberfields to £108 and £103.

Texel 2 year olds to £86, Welsh to £101, £95 and £78 and Charollais to £52.

Texel 3 year olds to £110 twice and £90, Suffolks to £86, Speckles to £43 and Welsh to £56.

Texel full mouth to £96 and £90 twice, Suffolks to £78, Speckles to £42 and £40, Mules to £60, Welsh to £81 and £76, Aberfields to £102, £98 and £95.

Welsh as found to £67 and Cheviots to £62 and £58 twice.

A very similar entry to last week, however the lambs on offer sold to a faster trade bringing with it a increased average of £55.59.

Texel theaves to £69 twice and £65.50, Suffolks to £63.50, £62.50 and £60, Mules to £53.50 and £49, Welsh to £37.50, Charollais to £49 and Aberfield to £56.50.

Texel mixed and clean lambs to £65, £64.50 and £64, Suffolks to £59 and £58, Mules to £58.50, £56 and £55.50 and Kerry's to £45.50.

Texel wethers lambs to £68 and £56, Mules to £60 and £59 and Kerry's to £54 and £48.50.

Texel tups to £73.50, £70 and £69.50, Suffolks to £69.50 and £50, Speckles to £39.50, Mules to £61.50, £58 and £56 and Welsh to £68, £64.50 and £58.50, Charollais to £64, Kerry's to £39.50 and native bred Dartmoors to £71.50.
