PRIME LAMBS (4223)

A similar entry of lambs forward sold to return an average of 176.01ppkg, with a top price of 230ppkg for pen of lambs weighing 33kg making £76 from S Lewis, Sychllyn, and £102/head for 69kg lambs from DN Bennett & Son, Upper Hall.

Again, a similar number of lambs on offer sold to a stronger trade throughout for all weights and grades of lambs, as  the fears over Brexit subside for a while, and numbers of lambs in the country, coming onto the market, reduce slightly. Best quality, well bred, better shaped lambs sold to a very good trade selling up to 230ppkg with plenty of other pens selling above 200ppkg. Better bred export and supermarket weight lambs (40 – 48kg) found a good competitive trade as did the heavier weight lambs with a new buyer present looking to purchase stronger well meated lambs, which resulted in plenty of lambs selling above £90 per head and up to £102. As in recent weeks, smaller weight lambs met a strong demand for all breeds with again, a good number of the better bred lambs going back on farm as store lambs. Most difficult to sell on the day were any over fat lambs of any weight.  Overall a good strong competitive trade throughout the sale and Vendors are encouraged to keep drawing well meated lambs every week.

Lights (328) to 189ppkg from GW Jones, Henfryn. Others to 185ppkg from M & K Brown, The Rock Farm. Average of 171.18ppkg.

Standards (833) to 230ppkg from S Lewis, Sychllyn. Others to 203ppkg from S Lewis, Sychllyn. Average of 174.42ppkg.

Mediums (1586) to 200ppkg from Bowen & Bowen, Penthryn. Others to 198ppkg from CJ Davies & Son, Waengwyn, CL & C Watkins, Bank Farm and T & B Williams, Cilmawr.  Average of 177.41ppkg.

Heavies (1046) to 192ppkg from DR Owen & Sons, Sandilands. Others to 191ppkg from CL & C Watkins, Bank Farm. Average of 170.92ppkg.

CULL SHEEP (1576)

A reduced entry of 1503 cull ewes met with a strong demand resulting in an excellent trade to average £55.29 (up £6.52 on the week).

Well fleshed Texel x continental ewes were very much in demand, especially well flesh continental x ewes, Mule ewes were also making up to £79. A fantastic entry of ewes presented by WL & JA Forrester, Twemlows topped the day with two pens making £135.

An entry of 70 tups were in strong demand and again met with an excellent trade to average £77.63 with top price of the day going to WL & JA Forrester making £200 on two individual tups.
