OTMS (44)

Another good number of OTM cattle on offer this week, seeing a top price of £1185 (158ppkg) for a Limousin x OTM weighing in at 750kg from RG Roberts, Ty Mawr. EK Meredith, Lodge Farm made 157ppkg for a Limousin x weighing 550kg making £863.50. Younger cows (48-72 months) topped at £1224 (144ppkg) for a Blonde d’Aquitaine x weighing 850kg from HM Powell & Son, Whitehouse. JHM Williams & Co, Cefngwilgy Fawr made 154ppkg for a Limousin x weighing 680kg making £1047.20. Heifers under 48 months topped at £948.60 (186ppkg) for a Charolais heifer weighing 510kg from Edwards & Co, Abertwymyn. Steers under 48 months sold to £1331.70 (193ppkg) for a Limousin weighing 690kg from ME Morgan & Co, Tynewydd.

An larger entry of lambs forward sold to return an average of 240.18ppkg, with a top price of 285ppkg for pen of lambs weighing 39kg making £111 from TH Vaughan & Son, Maes Mochnant Uchaf, and £123.50/head for 53kg lambs from A Rees & Son, Tynllwyn.

Lights (429) to 244ppkg from W Roberts, Plas Yng Nghraen. Others to 241ppkg from DG Jones, Cefnhirfawr. Average of 227.65ppkg.

Standards (1461) to 285ppkg from TH Vaughan & Son, Maes Mochnant Uchaf. Others to 273ppkg from IE Roberts & Son, Maesdyfnant. Average of 234.75ppkg.

Mediums (2022) to 278ppkg from TH Vaughan & Son, Maes Mochnant Uchaf. Others to 274ppkg from the same home.  Average of 245.56ppkg.

PRIME HOGGS (945)

A similar entry of hoggs forward sold to return an average of 179.35ppkg, with a top price of 246ppkg for pen of hoggs weighing 46kg making £113 from JJ Greenow, Penyworlow, Abergavenny and £126/head for 54.5kg hoggs from JJ Greenow, Penyworlow.

Lights (105) to 200ppkg from TH Jones, Coed Ddol. Others to 194ppkg from T Croft, Hillcrest. Average of 154.41ppkg.

Standards (206) to 211ppkg from AS Hopley, Kingsleigh. Others to 208ppkg from Ellis Lloyd & Co, Garthiaen. Average of 178.79ppkg.

Mediums (109) to 226ppkg from DG & BE Jenkins, Gaerfawr. Others to 218ppkg from JJ Greenow, Penyworlow.  Average of 196.55ppkg.

Heavies (188) to 246ppkg from JJ Greenow, Penyworlow. Others to 241ppkg from JJ Greenow, Penyworlow. Average of 221.92ppkg.

CULL SHEEP (3043)

A terrific entry of 3043 cull ewes met a very similar trade with an overall average of £63.29 being achieved. Heavy lean ewes were still a strong trade with all the best of these £85 plus. Fat is still very hard sold!

Top price of the day was achieved by DTA Williams, Upper Bolbro that sold Texel ewes at £136.

COUPLES

Another good entry of 650 ewe and lamb couples sold to a buoyant trade as the hope of rain was in both purchasers and vendors minds. As many vendors come to the end of their runs, trade has started to decline with the weather and grass being the main factor.

The top 5 pens still over £200, peaking at £225 from Von Dinther, The Knowles for Texel hoggs with single lambs.

Mule and Texek ewes with twins traded between £165 and £220 with singles between £110 and £205.

Welsh ewes with twins between £100 and £152 with singles between £68 and £108.

Texel hoggs ranged between £148 and £225 with the best sorts generally £175 plus.

Suffolk hoggs again in demand a premium selling from £168 to £190.

A large entry of Mule hoggs saw prices peak at £190 with all sorts trade from £140 up, with most selling between £155 and £165
