International award for MyWelshpoolTV

14/11/2022 @ 10:14

MyWelshpool’s new video news reporting has won big at the Mobile Journalism (MoJo) Awards which attracted entries from across the world.

Organised by the Berlin Smart Film School, MyWelshpool was joined by finalists from Canada, USA, Chile and France, coming out on top for the way we reported Welshpool’s immediate response to the Ukraine crises back in February.

That report also opened the door for us to secure funding from the Welsh Government through Creative Wales to trial weekly video news reports which have attracted over 100,000 views over the past four months.

“It’s fantastic recognition for what we have been trying to implement right here in rural Montgomeryshire,” said David Williams, MyTown Media Co-Founder, who collected the award virtually.

“It is clear that there is a real hunger for people to receive their local news in this way, and I hope that the Welsh Government will support us to deliver award-winning video news reports for a long time to come.”

The judges were impressed by both the quality and content of the report, with the awards organised to recognise and encourage mobile phone video news reporting across the world.

Judges for the awards included representatives from the Reuters Foundation, the Paris School of New Journalism, The American University Cairo as well as the Editor-in-Chief of Journalism.co.uk.

The Berlin Smart Film School offers Courses in Mobile Journalism & Mobile Filmmaking.
