Tesco colleagues from Welshpool and across Wales have raised an impressive £51,854 for Ty Hafan Children's Hospice and Cancer Research UK through a challenging 13-mile sponsored walk and numerous in-store fundraising activities.
Staff members from stores throughout Glamorgan, Dyfed, Clwyd, Powys and Gwent completed the gruelling trek last month, following a canal route from Pontypool to Goytre Wharf and back. The fundraising effort has been described as a tremendous success for two charities that hold special significance for many Tesco employees.
Paul Sherman, Tesco store manager and regional community lead, explained the motivation behind the initiative: "As a group of colleagues we have worked extremely hard to raise much needed funds for Ty Hafan Children's Hospice and Cancer Research UK. Our store Community Champions have worked tirelessly over recent weeks raising money through in-store events."
The canal walk saw dozens of colleagues turn out despite challenging conditions. "We chose Ty Hafan Children's Hospice because they are a wonderful South Wales children's charity that support the families of children who have life shortening conditions, helping to make their lives as full as they can be," Sherman added.
Ty Hafan provides essential free care and support to children with life-shortening conditions across Wales. The charity's mission centres on ensuring every child with such conditions lives a fulfilling life with appropriate specialist care and compassionate support for both the child and their family.
