Welshpool family-owned retailer Charlies Stores has announced the acquisition of its brand-new store in Cheltenham, described as a “major milestone” for the business, as it continues to grow its portfolio of retail stores across Wales and England.
From their much-loved flagship store at Coed-y-Dinas, home to the expanding Charlies Ag & Turf Official John Deere dealership, to just over the border in Shrewsbury, their eight stores have made their mark as a trusted family favourite, packed with everything you need for the home, garden and outdoors.
Charlies first opened its doors in 1986, starting with two small army surplus stores in Mid-Wales. Since then, it has grown into a regional brand with eight successful stores, a team of over 450 employees, and a thriving online store, distributing across the whole of the UK.
In the last five years alone, Charlies has seen remarkable growth of 78%, reaching an impressive £85m turnover (ex-VAT).
With over 50,000 Trustpilot reviews, rated excellent by customers, Charlies has become a trusted local business with strong values, consistent everyday prices and service with a smile.
The ninth store will bring over 50 new jobs to the Gloucestershire area when it opened on October.
Managing Director, Becky Lloyd (pictured), said: “We’re incredibly proud to be bringing Charlies to Cheltenham. We’re passionate about creating a shopping experience that’s welcoming, helpful and full of great products for everyday life. This expansion is a significant step for us, and we hope this new location becomes a favourite for locals.”
Charlies will be inviting the community to visit the store in October and discover what makes the brand a trusted name.
