As the demand for quality local housing continues to grow, we meet Primesave Properties Limited (https://www.primesave.co.uk) who are responsible for a number of key developments taking shape across the MyWelshpool area.
Since 2008, the company has been providing high-quality homes in both Shropshire and Powys. The homes they build come in a variety of sizes and styles, and are built in prime locations for buyers.
They cater to individual lifestyles, whether a first-time buyer, a growing family that needs to upsize or the need to downsize in a smart, comfortable bungalow.
From two-bedroomed terraces, five-bedroom family homes or three-bedroom bungalows, the company says it has the right home to meet any need.
Who are Primesave Properties Limited?
Primesave Properties Limited was formed in 2008 by Keri Negron-Jennings (pictured) with technical help from her father Stephen, who has over 40 years’ experience in the house building industry. There are six permanent employees including two apprentices and many subcontractors and suppliers, most of who have partnered with us for many years. In total the business probably supports around 20 local families.
What do you believe has been key to making your business a success?
We always plan developments that offer good value-for-money and meet the needs of local house buyers. Hopefully, something for everyone from first time buyers to young families and the retired. This helps create more sustainable communities which is so important in rural areas.
How has the local industry responded to the current push for new houses to be built? Are local companies able to compete with the big national housebuilders?
Frankly, with difficulty, for small businesses like ours it is impossible to compete with national builders and current Government strategy favours them. We are fortunate in that most of our work is in Powys and the national house builders are not so interested in the smaller sites found in our towns and villages.
What are the local projects you have completed?
Our most recent completed site was at Maesderw in Sarn, where 44 houses and bungalows were built. Previously we have built in Crew Green, Arddleen and Llanymynech, amongst others.
What are the latest projects that the company has been involved with?
Our current developments include Waterside Meadow in Crew Green, which has 24 homes and nearing completion. We also have sites in Pontrobert with nine bungalows and Arddleen with 14 houses and bungalows.
What more would you like to see local/national government to do to encourage your business/the industry to grow?
The supply of land isn’t the problem, the Government must enable local councils to process applications more quickly and streamline the incredible bureaucracy involved. There are also many unseen costs which have to be passed onto house buyers, making homes more expensive. On the positive side, the Welsh Government are proactive with the extension of Help to Buy Wales and have provided assistance with development funding.
What are your plans for the future?
We like what we do and our business is successful but we are in uncertain times so, consolidation is more important than expansion. We have several new projects at the planning stage and look forward to these coming forward over the next few years.
