Local care home celebrates top award

A group of young people from across Wales is helping to reshape the future of care services — and one local residential community has just been recognised for getting it right.

The 4C’s Young Commissioners, a panel of children and young people who work with the Children’s Commissioning Consortium Cymru (4Cs), recently awarded Amberleigh Care Ltd the title of Best Residential Participation Response.

The award celebrates organisations that put young people’s voices at the heart of their decision‑making.

Amberleigh Care, which provides residential support for young people, received the highest score of all residential providers assessed this year. Two young residents proudly attended the awards ceremony to accept the trophy on behalf of the service.

The Young Commissioners judged each provider on three key areas:

  • Being child‑friendly
  • Explaining what decisions children are involved in
  • Showing how children are supported to take part in decision‑making

These priorities reflect what matters most to young people in care — being listened to, included, and treated with respect.

The award was presented by members of the Young Commissioners Voices Board, who helped design and run the assessment panels.

Their leadership ensured that the judging process genuinely reflected the experiences and expectations of young people across Wales.

Amberleigh Care staff said they were “thrilled” with the recognition, describing it as a meaningful achievement because it comes directly from the young people they support.
