Large crowd attends local dairy farm dispersal sale

A genuine dispersal sale at a local dairy farm attracted a large crowd last Saturday, as prices peaked at £17,500.

The farm machinery sale at Bryn-y-Maes, Abermule, near Newtown was conducted by Shrewsbury-based Halls Auctioneers on behalf of Rob, Jan and Barry George, who are relinquishing their tenancy.

A dairy herd, established at Bryn-y-Maes over 28 years by the George family, was sold at Shrewsbury Auction Centre last month.

The family’s top selling lots were a 2003 John Deere 6420, 4WD tractor with 7,900 hours which sold for £17,500, a 2009 Manitou MLT731 with 7,040 hours which made £13,000 and a 2017 Abbey 1600 Vacci Tanker at £6,800.

There was also an excellent trade for dairy specific items, including an AI flask which sold for £420 and a Wes Parlour Vacuum Pump at £660.

Surplus machinery and livestock equipment consigned from 20 neighbouring farms also went under the hammer at the auction.

Leading prices were £3,600 for a 1996 Collins eight tonne silage trailer with sides, £3,200 for a 2,500-gallon Slurry Guzzler, £2,200 for a Welgar AP530 square baler, £1,700 for a Krone trailed mower conditioner, £1,600 for a Kuhn FC283 GII mower conditioner, £1,400 for an Ifor Williams tri-axle stock trailer with sheep decks and £1,300 for two Watson cattle feeders.
