Winning a prestigious Powys Business Award gave a Welshpool recruitment company an extra reason to celebrate its first birthday in style.
Mid Wales Recruitment Ltd won the Start Up Business Award, sponsored by EvaBuild, Newtown, at the annual awards ceremony held at The Infantry Battle School, Dering Lines, Brecon at on Friday night.
The awards are organised by Mid Wales Manufacturing Group (MWMG).
Steph Windsor and Billy Spencer launched Mid Wales Recruitment last October, having spotted a gap in the market for a professional, responsive and locally focused recruitment service for businesses and jobseekers across Mid Wales.
In their successful first year, the business has found jobs for hundreds of people and is currently working with 42 Mid Wales and Shropshire companies. In addition, the company has obtained a Gangmasters and Labour Abuse Authority (GLAA) licence and has taken on three staff itself.
Having both worked within the recruitment industry for a number of years, Steph and Billy have a clear vision for the future - to combine local knowledge with modern recruitment practices, connecting talented individuals with employers. Their motto is: ‘Personal. Professional. Local.’
Mid Wales Recruitment is currently the only recruitment agency with a dedicated office in Welshpool and prides itself on understanding the local labour market and responding quickly to client
“We never really thought we would win this so we are a bit overwhelmed,” said Billy. “This is only our first year so we never thought this would happen to us. It’s a massive achievement for us and the team.
“We want to dedicate this to our children because that is what we do all this for. We have got 120 people working with us now and we have created five jobs already in our office and the only reason we do this is for our children.”
Steph added: “From the outset, our vision has been to create a recruitment business built on trust, relationships and results. We understand the unique challenges faced by businesses in rural areas, including skills shortages, workforce retention and attracting talent into the region.
“We work closely with employers to understand their culture, requirements and long-term objectives, ensuring we identify candidates who are not only qualified but also the right fit for their organisation.”
The business has become a trusted recruitment partner for a range of sectors, including administration, manufacturing, engineering, logistics, commercial and professional services.
Two new recruitment consultants, a trainee recruitment consultant and a part time marketing assistant have joined the team, and the company has ambitious growth plans, including developing specialist divisions.
“Our goal is not simply to fill vacancies but to become the recruitment partner of choice for employers and jobseekers throughout Mid Wales,” added Steph. “This award recognises the progress we have made in our first year of trading and the positive contribution we are making to businesses, individuals and communities across the region.”
The judges said: “Mid Wales Recruitment has shown a clear vision for success and the determination to make it happen. Their rapid growth is a testament to their hard work, energy and dedication to delivering a personalised service that truly meets the needs of their clients.
“They are a fantastic example of entrepreneurial spirit in Powys.”
Runners-up for the award were Narrative Coffee, Rhayader and Vekta Limited, Llanidloes.
