The next generation taking action

Children from the Welshpool Church in Wales Primary School have taken action after being made aware of the impact that litter is having on the environment.

Years three and four children carried out a clean-up operation in the area around the Maes-y-dre school and filled five sacks in a short space of time.

“The children have been looking at the impact of litter and plastics in our environment and oceans,” said a school spokesperson.

“After watching video clips highlighting the impact plastic and litter is having on our oceans and wildlife, the children were really keen to get out into their local environment to remove the unwanted litter that is unfortunately around.

“They are very proud of their town and are eager to support the community in keeping it clean and tidy.”

Welshpool has made litter a priority with the Town Council taking on the street cleaning duties from Powys County Council, and a number of individuals, businesses and community groups also pitching in to tidy up.
