Hundreds of trees planted

Dozens of volunteers from Montgomeryshire Wildlife Trust, Welshpool High School, Welshpool Church in Wales School, Town Councillors and several families supported National Tree Week by planting a hundreds of native trees around the grounds of Maesydre.

In fact the team worked so hard, the job was done well before time and some volunteers only arrived in time to help pack up the tools!

“The work went surprisingly quickly,” said David Senior, Deputy Mayor. “We’d expected to be planting until about 3.30pm on Saturday but we’d underestimated how hard and well the people of Welshpool work!

“We were finished by lunchtime. Of course, this means that we owe a huge apology to those volunteers who arrived in time to help us pack up our tools, and to anyone who came along after 2pm.”

The next day of community activity on Maesydre will be planting native spring bulbs, on

Saturday, January 4, from 11am-2pm.
