Montgomeryshire going wild in June!

25/05/2020 @ 10:15

A local wildlife trust is urging residents in the Welshpool area to reconnect with the wild this June.

The Montgomeryshire Wildlife Trust is launching 30 Days Wild, and is encouraging residents of all ages to embrace the area where we live by taking part in activities each day during the month.

The Trust will be posting videos, activity suggestions and fun facts on their Facebook page every day to help local residents engage with nature and access the benefits that going “wild” can bring.

The Government restrictions have meant many of us have spent more time exploring what’s local to our homes and it is hoped that the June campaign will encourage more people to appreciate what we have on our doorstep.

These ‘random acts of wildness’ could range from walking barefoot on grass, to sitting beneath a tree or watching birds on a feeder.

The results show that taking part in 30 Days Wild not only significantly increases people’s wellbeing and heightened sense of nature – but that these positive increases are sustained beyond the life of the challenge – for a minimum of two months after it is over.

The people who benefit most are those who have a relatively weak connection with nature at the start.

Whilst time spent outside may be limited, daily nature activities – even at home – can open a door to a world of sensory delights, from listening to birdsong or growing a pot of wildflowers on a windowsill,” said a Trust spokesperson.

“People of all ages can sign-up and download fun ideas, wallcharts, activity sheets and inspiration for going wild in nature during June.  This year the campaign is 100% digital and everyone can download materials for FREE.”
