Avery Bristowe does not let the challenges that life throws at her get in her way.
Despite the Year 11 Welshpool High School having learning difficulties, she has become a serial fundraiser and spent one night this half term carrying out her latest stunt.
“Things aren’t easy for her at all due to her many disabilities,” said her proud mum, Sarah. “But it doesn’t stop her doing things to raise money every year for at least three charities to give back to people who have helped others.”
Whilst many of us have been contemplating whether to turn on the heating this week, Avery headed outdoors to do a sleep-out for Centrepoint Homeless Charity.
She spent Monday night braving the rain in her garden under a tarpaulin and blankets to keep her dry.
But this week was just the latest in a series of stunts that the youngster has undertaken, determined to overcome anything that would easily put others of.
“She runs her own group called Sign Along with Avery and Jake, to spread awareness for disabilities and different abilities,” said Sarah.
“Avery was diagnosed with autism back in 2019, she has been through a tough time, due to bullying and other challenges with mental health and her own disabilities, and teaches families Makaton and sign language. Avery is also a young carer for her little brother Jake and their dad Richard.
“She has done many charity events before, including last year when they did 100 star jumps for Starlight, and has done a few fundraisers for Cancer Research,” said Sarah.
“Next up, she has planned to do a fundraiser for Children in Need, by doing 100 signs (Makaton and BSL) through the month of November and also a Christmas fundraiser for Cancer Research.
“I am so proud of Avery, and the amount of effort that goes in with each fundraiser.”
