Big music weekend for Welshpool

25/08/2010 @ 03:55

Nine of the area’s best local talent will rock Welshpool this Sunday when a big charity concert is held at the Raven Inn on Sunday from 2pm.
Bockstock will be free to enter with concert goers asked to buy raffle tickets or make a donation on the day towards the Lingen Davies Cancer Centre Appeal.Colour Sunday
Headlined by local heavyweights The Soul Jets and Colour Sunday (right), Bockstock will feature both bands and solo artists in a jam-packed afternoon of live music.
Co-organiser Benny Picken said; “There are so many great outdoor music festivals going on around Wales and we wanted to bring something similar to Welshpool. We’re starting with a day event and we’re hoping the town and surrounding area really buys into it.
“We’ve got nine excellent bands and solo artists, a bar and BBQ running throughout so it should be a really relaxed summer vibe.  The Raven beer garden is the perfect setting for the inaugural ‘Bockstock’ and we’re delighted they agreed to stage the event.
“We’re also absolutely thrilled to be raising money for the Lingen Davies Cancer Centre Appeal. We’re hoping people will come down, eat, drink and listen to some great live music while helping raise money for a very worthy cause.”
The Lingen Davies Cancer Centre Appeal needs to raise £3.2m to improve the facilities at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, for local people to receive their treatment and care for cancer in a more comfortable and suitable environment. Thanks to generous local support, the Appeal recently hit the £3 million mark, but still has another £200,000 to raise.
‘Bockstock’ co-organiser Aled Lloyd said; “Although entry to ‘Bockstock’ is free, we’ll be holding a raffle in the lead up to the festival as well as taking charitable donations on the day. We’ve been really fortunate in having some great prizes donated for the raffle.”
Fundraising Manager Mrs Eryl Williams said “We are very grateful to the organisers of ‘Bockstock’ for nominating our cause to benefit from this event, which I’m sure will be a brilliant day, and I would like to thank everyone for their kind support.”
Details and line-ups
Bockstock will take place from 2-8pm.
The nine bands and soloists featured will be; The Soul Jets, Colour Sunday, Skinny White and the Goods, Small Time Crooks, The Nuclear Weasels, The Rebel Alliance, Andrew Neve, Dai Robs, and Barry Williams.
Glastonbury band in town
Across town, the Westwood will host a concert by Shrewsbury indie band 10k Runner later on in the day to complete a fantastic schedule of music for the town.
The band performed at Glastonbury last year and performs a set-list that mixes their own music with classic covers of Oasis, Kooks, Stone Roses to name just a few.
They will be joined by local artist Heather Bebb with the event scheduled for 5-9pm.
