Students captivated by STEM day

03/11/2023 @ 12:42

The students in Years 4, 5 & 6 at Buttington Trewern County Primary School had the opportunity to attend a Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths (STEM) activity day delivered by Techwuman Ltd as part of the Royal Air Force Youth STEM initiative.

The students engaged in thought-provoking, practical activities, and spent the day making zip line carriers, deciphering codes and analysing messages.

Head teacher Anna Griggs said the students were thoroughly captivated, and left the day feeling inspired about new potential career options.

“The STEM day was fantastic and the children had so much fun,” she said. “The day not only made the children aware of different career opportunities but also linked to the curriculum taught in school.

“Working in groups, the children competed against each other for a winning prize allowing them to gain valuable life skills such as resilience, teamwork and perseverance.”

After speaking to the students, one commented: “Before today I wanted to be a footballer but today opened my eyes on other things I could be. I really enjoyed the day and liked being an engineer so now this is what I want to do!”

Techwuman is an engineering consultancy that specialises in design engineering, with a mission to inspire the next generation into careers in STEM industries.
