Free parking for Welshpool 10k

20/03/2024 @ 02:53

Participants for Sunday’s Welshpool 10k have been handed a boost ahead of what promises to be another brilliant day for the town.

Adrenaline Sporting Events have confirmed that it has paid a fee to Powys County Council for free parking at Church Street Car Park, avoiding a problem that blighted the past two editions of the popular event.

Announcing on social media, lead organiser, Alan Lewis, said: “We had delays in 2022 and 2023 because machines were slow and people were queuing which caused a few problems. I reported this back to Powys County Council but nothing really happened so I have paid a fee on behalf of the runners to make the parking free.

“I hope this is well received as we want everyone to start the day off on the right foot, and parking is the first step to doing that. We’re really looking forward to seeing you all.”

The town centre will be closed off from the early hours of Sunday morning until about lunch time to allow the event start to be set up and for the event to pass smoothly.

Hundreds of runners will take in a route that incorporates Powis Castle before finishing back in the town centre. The run is expected to get underway at 9am.
