12/07/2024 @ 09:21

The 34th Welshpool Country Music Festival is set for a bumper edition next week with thousands of pounds set to be raised and keep afloat a vital local charity.

The annual event attracted hundreds of visitors to the Powis Castle Showground, with the entertainment stretching over four days from Thursday, July 18-21.

“It’s all good news with ticket and trader stand sales on track by already raising £30,000 towards the running costs of the Heulwen Trust. We hope to have a big response from local visitors again too,” a spokesperson told us.

The event was set up to fundraise for the Heulwen Trust charity that has offered people who are less abled free trips along the canal in Welshpool for the past 49 years.

It has proved to be a formidable source of income with the Festival thriving over the years, and this year there are a number of ticket options available from the £20 day tickets for Saturday and Sunday as well as the £5 evening tickets for the Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings. Children under 16 enter for free, but will need an actual ticket to gain access. Tickets are available through https://www.countrywestern.org.uk/tickets/

“This year we have entertainment on Thursday and Friday,” the spokespserson explained. “On Thursday from 4pm we have Line Dancing tuition for beginners and dancers of all abilities. We also have evening entertainment including two live bands and Line Dancing DJ. It will be the same again on the Friday.

“There’s lots of good food and pub priced beer in our Angel Saloon Bar.”

Sponsorship from local businesses include T. Alun Jones who provide the main stage, and Craig Humphreys from The Angel who provides the Marquee and the bar services.

“Plus, there are many more local businesses to thank for helping us get things in order. But most of all a big thank-you to our local volunteers who have stepped up and offered to spend many hours helping to greet our visitors and help get the field ready for the big day,” he said.
