It’s been an energetic and fruitful opening weekend for the latest Parkinson’s UK Cymru 10x10k Challenge (Welshpool) with £5,000 raised.
Friday night’s Gala Dinner at The Royal Oak (pictured) raised a staggering £5,000 through a well-supported raffle and auction, and then Warren Sinden undertook an awe-inspiring 100km SkiErg Challenge that raised hundreds of pounds on Saturday.
It sets us up nicely for the first of the 10km runs to take place this coming Sunday (March 8) from Morrison’s Car Park at 3pm, and finishing at Coco’s.
The Challenge’s founder, Phil Jones, said he was blown away by the support from the opening weekend.
“What a start!” he said. “Huge thanks to everyone that supported the Gala Dinner, and of course to Warren for his astonishing feat on Saturday. Sincere thanks to Laura, David and the team at The Royal Oak as well as Rob Cook Williams and Cathy Beech who provided the entertainment on friday night.
"To be supported by local business has been remarkable given the difficult economic conditions that they are operating in. We are all ready now for the first of the 10ks to start next Sunday when anyone can come down to run, walk or cycle it and support a good cause with a donation.”
The Challenge has raised over £30,000 in its first two editions, with this third edition already raising over £8,000 in total.
Sunday’s opening event will be followed by 14 more locally organised over the fortnight, with the challenge to try and complete 10 in that time, or merely join in with one (full list below).
You can donate any time by clicking here, with all of the money raised going towards the charity’s work within Powys.
There is a total of 15 (10km) events you can pick and choose from to take part in from March 8-22!
