A Welshpool man has been jailed for 10 years after being found guilty of nine counts including two counts of raping a child, three of sexual assaults on children, and two counts of inciting a child to take part in a sexual act.
Tom Piggott, 21, was called ‘manipulative and devious’ by a judge at Mold Crown Court as he was jailed for 10 years on Monday.
Judge Niclas Parry praised two of Piggott’s three victims for giving impact statements and accused the former Oswestry Otters swimmer, and Paralympic hopeful, of “arrogance” as throughout his testimony, Piggott, 21, claimed that he was not responsible for the many messages grooming his victims, but that he had been hacked.
His lies were exposed by a police forensic investigation and he was told that he would not be up for automatic release on licence because he was considered a danger to the public, and will instead be forced to apply for parole.
In July, the jury took just 30 minutes to find him guilty of all charges with the most severe sentence of 10 years being given for the rape of a child under the age of 13.
He will serve a minimum of nine years in jail and 12 months on licence, if parole is not approved earlier.
