The local farming community has been soundly praised by firefighters after a “literal army of tractors” turned up to stop a major wild fire near Meifod.
Llanfair Caereinion Fire Station shared its appreciation after arriving to tackle a grass fire near the village which was in danger of getting out of control and spreading.
But local farmers had other ideas and came to the aid of the local fire station.
This morning, the fire station posted: “Been a lot of humbling posts appreciating the Fire Service in recent days. But we would like to take the opportunity to make one of our own for the farming/agricultural contracting community.
“Yesterday, we attended a fast spreading grass fire near Meifod. Due to ongoing incidents there were very limited additional appliances available to assist and we would have struggled to control the fire without the literal army of tractors and tankers that turned up.”
They finished by adding that the station was also battling the major wild fire today near Rhayadar which has been burning for several days.
