A village council in crisis

29/05/2025 @ 07:33

Guilsfield Community Council is dangerously close to being unable to function due to a lack of councillors, with tonight’s monthly meeting cancelled.

The council’s clerk is liaising with Powys County Council over what steps need to be taken in the short term whilst a recruitment campaign takes place to try and bring the local authority up to full steam.

Last week, following another resignation, the council dropped to just four members, well below their full quota of 12, but that councillor has since retracted their resignation to return to five.

A spokesperson told us: “It’s not good, but we will be putting out a poster to try and attract new councillors.”

Community councillors are volunteer positions, and if anyone would like to be considered, they can contact Kimberly Wright, Clerk of Guilsfield Community Council, through guilsfieldcommunitycouncil@gmail.com.
