A group of budding golfers from the Welshpool area have teamed up to take on the Big Golf Race in aid of Prostate Cancer UK.
Richard Jones (Guilsfield), David Jones (Guilsfield), Matthew Evans (Berriew), Bryan Jarman (Pontrobert), Rhys Williams (Guilsfield), Daniel Blakney (Montgomery) and Hefin Rowlands (Llanbadarn-Fynydd) will play 72 holes of golf in one day on Monday, June 16.
And if that wasn’t enough, they will be taking on the challenge at the breathtakingly beautiful Welshpool Golf Club. With its spectacular views and rugged landscape, the unique golf course at Welshpool offers a real charm to the challenge as well as a lot of hills to walk up and down!
Matthew said: “72 holes of golf means going around the course four times in a row. This is likely to mean about 20 miles of hill walking, 400ish golf swings and a 4am tee time to ensure we are finished within the allotted time.”
Richard added: “One in eight men are affected by Prostate cancer in the UK - that is thousands of dads, brothers, partners, grandads, mates, sons and uncles - the challenge is for a very worthy cause. But it doesn’t have to be this way and that is why we are going the distance for Prostate Cancer UK.”
David concluded: “We want to raise as much money as possible for lifesaving research that will find better tests to diagnose men sooner. Your donation will help create a future where early diagnosis saves lives. Thank you.”
