Two of the town’s heroes that fought in the Falklands War helped to unveil a new commemorative bench that has come to fruition following the determination of local historian Alan Crowe.
A fitting ceremony took place in the town’s Memorial Garden in Howell Drive, where local Falklands veterans Andrew Oliver (HMS Fearless - left) and Keith ‘Harry’ Gannon (3 Para) carried out the formal unveiling.
Mr Crowe (pictured with the mic) started his fundraising for the bench several years ago and through his guided walks and talks on local history or his entertainment career to local organisations, he managed to purchase the bench and handed it over to the Mayor, Councillor Phil Owen, who accepted it on behalf of Welshpool Town Council.
The ceremony was attended by other local veterans along with family members. Dedicating the bench was The Rev. Roger Brown.
Refreshments were served afterwards in the Feathers building, next to the Memorial Garden.
