Despite fears that the hugely successful Welshpool 1940s Weekend could fold due to financial pressures, its lead organiser has made a defiant call that ‘the show must go on!’.
Alan Crowe has confirmed this morning that following a debriefing and a huge show of public support to last week’s latest chapter, plans have started for the 2026 event to be held from September 25-27.
The weekend will coincide with the final few days of the Longest Yarn 2 exhibition (pictured) being held in the Town Hall throughout September 2026, showcasing a remarkable work of art depicting scenes from wartime Britain.
“Anyone willing to join the committee or be a friend of the event and help out with fundraising events or on the actual weekend should contact Crystal Riffel or me,” said Mr Crowe.
“Maybe readers have a particular skill that they can offer but don’t want to be bogged down attending meetings? Already people have come forward to act as coordinators for Military Vehicles, another for vintage tractors and another for civilian vehicles. Could you help with digital marketing, volunteer liaison, or countless other tasks then please get in touch.
Mr Crowe said he hoped more individuals and businesses would get behind the event and help put it on a more secure financial footing so that the event’s future is more secure and not hand to mouth year-by-year.
