Phil announces latest 10x10k challenge

With more than £30,000 raised from the first two challenges for Parkinson’s Cymru, former head teacher Phil Jones has confirmed that the trilogy will be completed by doing 10km runs over 10 consecutive days next March.

Hundreds have taken part in the first two events which started with seven 10ks and then last year it was extended to eight, with even MyWelshpool joining in with the challenge.

But Phil, the driving force behind the challenges, has revealed an extra two days have been added for 2026.

“We are launching the third in the trilogy of challenges which will be bigger and better, with 10km runs over 10 days this time,” said Phil.

“We have three aims: To raise awareness of Parkinson’s; to get people out and about and being active; and to raise money for the charity.”

Last year, the challenge was backed by a number of schools from the Welshpool and Newtown areas that took part on the various days with activities of their own.

Several runners joined Phil to run all eight 10k runs, and he has extended an open invitation to the community for anyone to join in this year.

“Come along this winter and join us in training. You can walk, run or cycle one of the 10ks or all of them next March!”
